Vorderwald

The Vorderwald cattle is an ancient breed of cattle from the Black Forest, Germany, first mentioned in 1544.
It is a bicolor breed (red with white patches) suitable for both dairy and beef production, with a milk yield of approximately 4864 kg (3.98% fat, 3.32% protein).
Cows are 128-137 cm tall and weigh 550-650 kg, while bulls are 140-153 cm tall and weigh 950-1100 kg.
They are vigorous, long-lived, and have strong legs, ideal for mountainous areas.
Milk production has been improved by crossbreeding with Red Holstein and Montbéliard cattle, among others.
