Whisky

Whisky (or Whiskey) is a distilled spirit made from grains (primarily barley, corn, rye, or wheat) that is aged in oak barrels.

Alcohol content: usually 40-46% ABV.
Production: malting (sometimes smoking with peat), fermentation, distillation (usually 2-3 times), and aging (min. 3 years for Scotch).
Popular types: Single Malt Scotch: 100% malted barley, single distillery.
Bourbon: American, min. 51% corn, new oak barrels.
Irish Whiskey: often triple distilled, smoother.
Rye: at least 51% rye, spicier.
Whisky is drunk neat, on the rocks, or with a little water.
The taste varies enormously depending on the grain, peat, barrel, and region (from sweet and vanilla to smoky and medicinal).

In short: complex, aged grain drink with endless variations!

Banyuls

Banyuls is a French Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) for a sweet, fortified dessert wine (vin doux naturel) from the Roussillon region in southern France, near the Spanish border.
The wine is made primarily from Grenache grapes (at least 50%) on steep terraces in the schist soils of the Côte Vermeille, in communes such as Banyuls-sur-Mer, Collioure, and Port-Vendres.
Fermentation is stopped with the addition of alcohol for sweetness, followed by aging in oak barrels or under the sun (mutage), with varieties such as Traditionnel (at least 10 months of aging), Rimage (vintage style), and Grand Cru (at least 30 months).
The red version has intense flavors of red fruit, spices, and nuts and is popular as an aperitif or with chocolate and cheese. Banyuls-sur-Mer is also a coastal village with a rich history of smuggling and wine production.

Champagne varies in taste from dry (brut) to sweet (doux) and has an alcohol percentage of about 12%.

Mulled wine

Gluhwein (literally: glowing wine) is an alcoholic drink that is mainly consumed in Central Europe in the period just before Christmas.
To make mulled wine, red or white wine is heated with cinnamon, cloves, star anise and citrus peel and possibly sweetened with sugar or honey.
The drink is then drunk warm.
The drink should not be heated above about 70 °C during preparation, otherwise the alcohol evaporates. Mulled wine usually has an alcohol content of about 13%, although ready-made mulled wine of 8.5% is also sold.

Rose wine

Rose wine is wine made from red grapes, sometimes in combination with white grapes.
The wine gets its color because the skins of the blue grapes remain in the juice for less time than when preparing red wine.
Carbon dioxide may be added during the filling of the bottles.

White wine

White wine is made from the juice of grapes.
The must is therefore free of peels, stems and seeds.
Because grape juice contains little to no coloring, the wine will be almost white.
White wine can therefore also be made from black grapes.
