Flag of North Macedonia

The flag features a yellow, radiant sun with eight broader rays extending toward the edges of the red field.

Symbolism:

The yellow sun on a red background symbolizes the "new sun of liberty," a reference to the country's national anthem ("Denes nad Makedonija").

Red and yellow are the traditional national colors of Macedonia.

The current flag was officially adopted on October 5, 1995, following the country's independence in 1991.

Originally, the flag featured the Star of Vergina (an ancient Greek symbol), but due to a diplomatic conflict with Greece, the design was changed in 1995 to the current sun emblem.
