The Bayonne Bridge is an impressive steel arch bridge (through arch bridge) spanning the Kill Van Kull between Bayonne (New Jersey) and Staten Island (New York).

Opened: November 15, 1931.
Designers: Othmar Ammann (engineer) and Cass Gilbert (architect).
Main span: 1,675 feet (approx. 510 meters) — the longest steel arch bridge in the world from 1931 to 1977.
Total length: approximately 1,762 meters.
Traffic: 4 lanes (Route 440).

The bridge replaced a ferry service and is owned by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
In 2017, the roadway was raised (from 46 m to 66 m above water) to allow larger container ships (Panamax) to sail into the port.
It is a national historic landmark and an engineering marvel.
