Sjaasbergergank in Valkenburg

The Sjaasbergergank is an annual pilgrimage on the last Sunday of June to the hermitage on the Schaelsberg in Valkenburg aan de Geul, South Limburg.
Pilgrims travel from Walem to the hermitage and its chapel for an open-air mass in the Limburg dialect, celebrated by the pastor of Schin op Geul.
Choirs and shooting clubs accompany the procession, and special "teunisbroodjes" (Evening bread rolls) with medicinal herbs are blessed and distributed.
After the mass, there is the Leonarduskermis (Leijenaartskermis), a folk festival with traditional and modern attractions.
This tradition, which dates back to the 18th century, has been recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Netherlands.
