In the upper-left section of the red band, there is a white crescent moon and five white stars arranged in a circle.
The aspect ratio is 2:3.
Meaning:
Red: universal brotherhood and equality.
White: purity and virtue.
Crescent moon: a young, rising nation.
Five stars: democracy, peace, progress, justice, and equality.
The flag was unveiled on December 3, 1959, when Singapore gained self-government.
The same flag remained in use upon independence in 1965.
