White: Represents peace.
Maroon: Symbolizes the blood shed during Qatar's wars and also refers to the country's historical role in dye and purple pigment production.
The nine points: The nine white triangles along the edge indicate that Qatar is the ninth of the "Reconciled Emirates" of the Persian Gulf, following the British-Qatari treaties of 1916.
Distinguishing feature: Qatar has the only national flag in the world with a width more than double its height (the ratio is 11:28).
