Flag of Samoa

The flag of Samoa is red with a blue canton in the upper left, on which five white five-pointed stars form the Southern Cross. 

It has been in use since February 24, 1949 (initially with four stars; the fifth small star was added in 1949) and became the national flag upon independence on January 1, 1962. 

Red stands for bravery, blue for freedom, and white for purity. 

The stars refer to Samoa’s location in the Southern Hemisphere and align with the flag of New Zealand.
