The coat of arms depicts three towers (Guaita, Cesta, and Montale) atop the peaks of Monte Titano, surmounted by a crown (a symbol of sovereignty) and flanked by laurel and oak branches, along with the motto *Libertas* (liberty).
White represents peace, while light blue represents liberty (and the sky).
The flag was officially adopted in 1862; the design (including the crown) was formalised in 2011.
A civil version without the coat of arms also exists.
