Miltenberg

Miltenberg is a small town in Bavaria (Lower Franconia), Germany, situated at a bend in the River Main between the Odenwald and Spessart regions.
It is the administrative seat of the district of the same name.

The town is often referred to as the "Pearl of the Main" due to its well-preserved medieval town center, featuring hundreds of half-timbered houses, narrow alleyways, and the photogenic Schnatterloch market square.
Overlooking the town is Mildenburg Castle (12th century), which now houses a museum.
The *Gasthaus Zum Riesen* is considered one of the oldest inns in Germany.
Its history dates back to Roman times (the Limes).
The town was first mentioned in records in 1237 and grew during the Middle Ages into an important trading and toll town on the Main, under the authority of the Archbishopric of Mainz.
It has been part of Bavaria since 1816.

Tourism, wine (Churfranken), and its location on the German Half-Timbered House Route make it a popular destination.
