The coat of arms depicts Mount Triglav (the highest mountain in the country), two wavy lines symbolizing the Adriatic Sea and rivers, and three golden stars from the coat of arms of the Counts of Celje.
The colors are Pan-Slavic and originate from the medieval coat of arms of the Duchy of Carniola.
The tricolor was first hoisted on April 7, 1848.
The current flag, without the communist red star from the Yugoslav period, was officially adopted in June 1991 after independence.
The ratio is 1:2.
