It opened in December 1999 and, from January 1 to December 31, 2000, housed the Millennium Experience, an interactive exhibition about Britain's history and future.
With a diameter of 365 meters and a capacity of 20,000 visitors, it was the largest domed building in the world in terms of usable volume at the time.
The project cost billions and was a financial fiasco with too few visitors, but since 2007 it has functioned as The O2: a successful entertainment complex with concerts and events.
