Tokushima

Tokushima is a prefecture in the Shikoku region of Japan, with an area of approximately 4,147 km².
It borders Kagawa to the north, Ehime to the west, and Kochi to the southwest, and lies across the Kii Channel from Wakayama on the island of Honshu.
The capital is Tokushima City, with a population of approximately 682,000 (2025).
History and Culture: Formerly known as Awa Province, it became a modern prefecture in 1880.
It is world-famous for the Awa Odori Festival, a massive dance festival held in August with thousands of participants.
Economy: Strongly focused on agriculture (rice, cauliflower, lotus roots, sudachi citrus, and Naruto sweet potatoes), forestry, and fishing.
Industry is growing in coastal areas, partly due to the bridges to Kobe.
Things to See: Natural highlights include the world-famous Naruto Whirlpool, the Iya Valley with its suspension bridges, Oboke Gorge, and national parks like Setonaikai.
It's also home to tech initiatives in Kamiyama. Tokushima combines tranquil mountains, fertile plains, and vibrant traditions – ideal for nature lovers and festival-goers.
