Duindorp Bonfire

The Duindorp Bonfire is an iconic annual tradition in The Hague's Duindorp neighborhood (Scheveningen).
Residents build a massive woodpile on Zuiderstrand beach starting in late December.
On New Year's Eve at midnight, the bonfire is lit in a friendly competition with the Scheveningen bonfire for the tallest or largest fire in the world.
Its roots lie in illegal Christmas tree burnings from the 1940s and 1950s.
