Flag of Zambia

The flag of Zambia is green with three vertical stripes in red, black, and orange on the right side (fly side), surmounted by an orange eagle (African osprey) in flight. 

It was adopted on October 24, 1964, upon independence (slightly modified in 1996, including a slightly lighter shade of green). 

Symbolism: 

Green: natural resources, vegetation, and agriculture. 

Red: struggle for freedom. 

Black: the people of Zambia. 

Orange: mineral resources, especially copper. 

Eagle: freedom and the ability to rise above problems. 

The ratio is 2:3.
