Flag of Belarus

The flag of Belarus consists of two horizontal stripes: a wide red stripe at the top (approximately 2/3 of the height) and a narrower green stripe at the bottom (1/3), with a vertical white stripe on the hoist side (left) featuring a red traditional ornament/pattern. 

This design was adopted in 1995 via a referendum (and slightly modified in 2012).

It is largely based on the flag of the former Belarusian SSR, but without the communist symbols (hammer, sickle, and star). 

Symbolism (briefly): 

Red: refers to history (including the Battle of Tannenberg/Grunwald in 1410) and the struggle in the Second World War. 

Green: represents the country's forests, hope, and a bright future. 

The ornament: a traditional folkloric pattern (designed in 1917) that symbolizes folk culture and unity. 

The ratio is 1:2.
