Gramado

Gramado is a tourist town in the Serra Gaucha (Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil), at an altitude of approximately 850 meters and about 115 km from Porto Alegre. 

The town is known for its European (German and Italian) architecture, cool mountain climate, chocolate, fondue, and hydrangeas. 

Important events include the Natal Luz (one of the longest Christmas festivals in the world) and the Gramado Cinema Festival. 

There are no traffic lights; traffic flows via roundabouts. 

Gramado originated in the late 19th century as a resting place for cattle drovers and was later colonized by Portuguese (Açorian), German, and Italian immigrants. 

Together with Canela, it forms the “Hydrangea Region”.
