Flag of the United States

The flag of the United States (also known as the Stars and Stripes of Old Glory) features: 13 horizontal stripes: 7 red and 6 white, symbolizing the 13 original colonies. 

50 white stars on a blue field (the union) in the upper left corner, representing the 50 states. 

The colors traditionally stand for courage (red), purity (white), and vigilance/justice (blue). 

The current version with 50 stars has existed since July 4, 1960.
