Flag of Tunisia

The flag of Tunisia is red with a white circle in the center containing a red crescent moon and a red five-pointed star.
The ratio is 2:3.
The crescent moon and star are traditional Islamic symbols (the star is sometimes associated with the five pillars of Islam) and also refer to the history as part of the Ottoman Empire.

Red represents, among other things, the struggle and blood of martyrs, while white represents peace.
The flag was introduced around 1831 (or 1835) by the Tunisian Bey, remained in use during the French protectorate, and became the official national flag after independence (1956); the exact specifications were established by law in 1999.
