Flag of South Korea

The flag of South Korea (Taegeukgi) features a white background with a red and blue taegeuk (yin-yang symbol) in the center and four black trigrams in the corners. 

White represents purity and peace. 

The taegeuk symbolizes the duality of the universe (positive/negative, light/dark). 

The trigrams (geon, gon, gam, ri) represent the four elements: heaven, earth, water and fire. 

The flag was officially adopted in 1883 and was further standardized after the establishment of the Republic of Korea in 1948.
