Flag of Turkey

The flag of Turkey (Turkish: Türk bayrağı or Ay Yıldız) is a red flag with a white crescent moon and a white five-pointed star, slightly to the left of the center.
The ratio is 2:3.
The design originates from the Ottoman period (officially from 1844) and was standardized by the Turkish Republic in 1936.

The red color traditionally represents the blood of fallen soldiers and courage; the moon and star are ancient symbols (originally not purely Islamic, but strongly connected to Ottoman and Turkish identity). The flag is also known as al bayrak (“the red flag”).
