Flag of Trinidad and Tobago

The flag consists of a red field with a black diagonal stripe (from top left to bottom right), bordered with white edges. 

Ratio: 3:5. 

It was adopted on August 31, 1962 (independence) and designed by Carlisle Chang. 

Meaning of the colors: 

Red: sun, energy, vitality, courage, and friendliness of the people. 

Black: earth, wealth of the country, strength, dedication, and unity. 

White: water/sea, purity, equality, and aspirations. 

Together, red, black, and white symbolize the elements fire, earth, and water.
