Overtone singing in psalms in Genemuiden

Overtone singing in psalms in Genemuiden is a unique singing tradition in which tenors sing a countermelody above the main melody of psalms, primarily in Protestant churches.
This tradition, rooted in the 19th century, has been recognized as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO. In Genemuiden, possibly its birthplace, it is practiced in the Reformed Church, the Restored Reformed Church, and the Reformed Church, often accompanied by organ music.
The Christian Genemuiden Men's Choir STEREO and the Genemuiden Overtone Group keep the tradition alive through concerts and rehearsal evenings.
The singing, deeply connected to local identity, is also sung outside the church, as it was in the past by reed cutters.
