Traditions of the City Guild of Saint Catherine Weert

The Guild of Wieërter Stadsschötte Sinte Catharina 1480, founded in 1480, is a historic shooting guild in Weert, originating from a religious brotherhood.
The guild, which once protected the city, now has a ceremonial character with traditions such as the king's bird shooting, the celebration of Saint Catherine (November 25th), the opening of the fair, and the accompaniment of the city procession.
Its motto is "Voor Alter, Heerd en Troon" (For Alter, Hearth, and Throne).
The guild uses muskets, has a shooting school for young people, and has been included in the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2014.
In 2024, the guild decided to temporarily suspend its activities due to a lack of new members, but hopes to restart in the future.
