Kampong Speu

Kampong Speu (Khmer: កំពង់ស្ពឺ) is a province in central-western Cambodia, immediately west of Phnom Penh (approximately a 45-90 minute drive via National Road 4).

Name: Literally "Starfruit Haven" (speu = starfruit/carambola), but the province is much better known for its palm sugar, considered the best in Cambodia, and palm wine.
Landscape: Ranging from lowlands and rice paddies in the east to hills and mountains in the west, culminating in Kirirom National Park (mountainous, pine forests, waterfalls, and a cool climate).
Main attractions: Kirirom National Park (hiking, nature, fresh air), Oudong Mountain (historic site with stupas), local villages, sugar production, and traditional countryside
Economy: Primarily agriculture (rice, sugar palms, fruit), some tourism, and proximity to Phnom Penh contribute to growing business activity.

In short: a green, peaceful province near the capital, ideal for day trips to nature and authentic Cambodian countryside, especially known for sugar palms and Kirirom Park.
