Battambang

Battambang is a province in northwestern Cambodia, with its capital, Battambang (the third-largest city in the country after Phnom Penh and Siem Reap).
Nickname: "The Rice Bowl of Cambodia" due to its fertile rice fields and leading role in rice production. History and Location: The province borders Thailand to the west and other Cambodian provinces such as Banteay Meanchey, Siem Reap, and Pursat.
Historically, the area frequently changed hands between Cambodia and Thailand (Siam), until it became part of French Indochina (and thus Cambodia) in 1907.
The name Battambang means "lost stick," referring to an ancient Khmer legend.

Attractions: The capital boasts well-preserved French colonial architecture, a relaxed atmosphere along the Sangker River, and is a center for arts and culture.
Well-known attractions in the province include:
The famous bamboo train (norry).
Ancient temples such as Wat Banan and Wat Ek Phnom.
Phnom Sampeau (with caves and bats).
The countryside with rice paddies and villages.
