The capital is Fuzhou, and the largest city (in terms of population) is Quanzhou.
Other well-known cities: Xiamen (a popular tourist and port city) and Zhangzhou.
Very mountainous (80% mountains → nicknamed "eight parts mountain, one part water, one part farmland").
Beautiful scenery: Wuyi Mountains (UNESCO), tea plantations (famous Oolong & Wuyi Rock Tea), coastline with islands (including Gulangyu).
Historically very important: an important port of departure during Chinese maritime voyages (Zheng He, Marco Polo), and many overseas Chinese originally come from Fujian (Hokkien).
Famous sights: Fujian Tulou (enormous round clay houses – a UNESCO World Heritage site), Mazu temples, and ancient trading cities.
Dialect: Min (Hokkien), very different from Mandarin.
Economy: Strong, primarily trade, electronics, shoes/clothing, and tea exports.
In short: A beautiful, green, mountainous province with a rich maritime and emigration history, famous for tea, tulou houses, and strong ties to Taiwan and Southeast Asia.
