It is one of the largest and most beautiful Easter bonfires in the Netherlands, with an entry in the Guinness Book of Records for the tallest bonfire ever (2012).
Local young people build the log pile by hand, using prunings from farmers and visitors, and it is part of a competition with neighboring hamlets for the tallest and most beautiful log pile.
The event attracts thousands of visitors with live music, a lantern parade for children, and a party in a tent.
It is recognized as intangible cultural heritage, with almost all 370 residents involved through the Espelo Easter Bonfire Foundation.
It was a success in 2025, with the next edition scheduled for April 5, 2026.
