Marowijne River

The Marowijne River (also called the Maroni) forms the international border between French Guiana (France) and Suriname in South America.
It rises in the Tumuk Humak Mountains, is approximately 612 km long, and flows into the Atlantic Ocean at Albina.
Major tributaries include the Lawa (often considered the main source), Litani, and Tapanahony.
The river has a drainage basin of 66,000 km², an average flow rate of 1,700 m³/s, and is ecologically significant due to nature reserves for birds and leatherback turtles near Galibi.
Historically, it has played a role in border disputes since the 16th century.
