The goal isn't to win, but to determine the loser, who then has to buy the other players a round of beer.
The game has been recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Netherlands since 2017 and has been played for over a century, with roots possibly dating back to the 19th century.
The Bonaken Netherlands Foundation organizes the annual Dutch Championship (NK).
Players and cards: Number of players: Minimum 2, maximum 7 (usually 4 at the NK).
Everyone plays solo, without teams.
Deck: 32 cards from a standard deck (7 through ace in all suits; 2 through 6 and joker are omitted).
It is a trick-taking game, related to klaverjassen or bridge, but shorter and more individual—hence the nickname "kleintje klaverjassen" (little klaverjassen) in some regions.
