Blacksmithing in Andelst

Blacksmithing in Andelst is a centuries-old craft with roots in the Middle Ages, where blacksmiths made tools, weapons, and everyday objects for farmers, craftsmen, and the military. 

Demand declined with the Industrial Revolution, but in Andelst, the tradition is kept alive by Cornelis Pronk Forge. 

This forge, located at Ambachtsweg 38, has offered vocational training, workshops, and projects like "Wijzer met IJzer" (Smarter with Iron) for schools since 1998 through Mondra Opleidingen, focusing on sustainable and circular metalworking. 

The craft has been recognized as intangible cultural heritage of the Netherlands since 2016.
