Fine Distillation of Genever and Liqueur in Amsterdam

The fine distillation of genever and liqueur is a traditional Amsterdam craft, recognized as intangible cultural heritage since 2016.
It takes place at the only remaining artisanal distillery, De Ooievaar, owned by Firma A. van Wees in the Jordaan district.
Genever is distilled with malt wine, juniper berries, and herbs, while liqueurs are made from brandy, alcohol, fruits, nuts, and flowers.
Once a male-dominated profession, it is now also practiced by women, with tastings held in the tasting room.
