Caravan Culture

Caravan culture in the Netherlands is a unique way of life, primarily among Sinti, Roma, and Travellers, characterized by living in caravans on designated caravan sites.
This culture, with roots in the 19th century, values family ties, mobility, and independence.
An estimated 30,000 to 40,000 people in the Netherlands live in caravans, often on designated sites.
The culture has traditions such as music, storytelling, and a strong sense of community, but also faces challenges such as stigmatization and limited pitches.
Municipalities often manage small caravan sites, but availability and integration remain points of contention.
