Today, it's a ten-day event in August, with approximately 70 attractions in the city center, focused on fun for all ages: merry-go-rounds, bumper cars, performances, fireworks at the opening, and a carnival mass.
It offers relaxation, encounters, and nostalgia, organized by the municipality of Hoorn since the 15th century.
Along with Rag Market, it has been recognized as intangible cultural heritage of the Netherlands.
Rag Market, the closing day of the third Monday in August, is a large market with 250 stalls in squares like Grote Noord and Noorderveemarkt, full of bargains in clothing, fabrics (rags), shoes, household items, and delicacies.
It starts early (from 6:00 AM) and closes at 3:00 PM, attracting thousands of visitors who come to hunt for bargains.
Bars are open but will temporarily close between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM, with alcohol prohibited in shops and supermarkets after 6:00 PM to prevent disruption.
The event promotes community spirit and is cherished as cultural heritage.
