Emilia-Romagna

Emilia-Romagna is a region in north-central Italy, one of the richest and most developed parts of Europe.

Capital: Bologna (the lively, historic university city with towers and long arcades/porticos).
Location: from the Adriatic Sea (east coast with seaside resorts such as Rimini and Riccione) to the Po Plain (north) and the Apennines (south/west).
Borders Veneto, Lombardy, Tuscany, and San Marino (enclave), among others.
Famous for food: *the* region of authentic Italian cuisine!
Think of Parmigiano-Reggiano, Prosciutto di Parma, Aceto Balsamico di Modena, tortellini, tagliatelle al ragù (Bolognese sauce), Lambrusco, and mortadella.
Cars: Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, and Ducati come from here (Motor Valley).
Culture & history: Ravenna (most beautiful Byzantine mosaics in the world – UNESCO), Modena, Parma, Ferrara, Piacenza.
Landscape: fertile Po Plain (intensive agriculture), hills, coast, and mountains.
Notable: oldest university in the world (Bologna, 1088), high quality of life, strong economy (food, cars, machinery, tourism).

In short: Emilia-Romagna = world-class food + supercars + art cities + fine beaches + Bologna as a vibrant center.
One of the most "lively" regions of Italy!
