The region is officially called Périgord, but is usually simply called Dordogne (named after the river of the same name).
Known for its beautiful nature, green valleys, the winding Dordogne River, and numerous castles (over 1,000!).
World Heritage prehistoric caves with rock art (including Lascaux).
Beautiful medieval bastide towns such as Sarlat-la-Canéda, Domme, Beynac, La Roque-Gageac, and Rocamadour (just outside).
Many castles (including Castelnaud, Beynac, and Milandes).
Excellent regional cuisine: duck, foie gras, truffles, walnuts, wine, and cheeses.
Ideal for river kayaking, hiking, cycling, markets, and family outings.
It's one of the most popular holiday destinations in France, especially among the Dutch, Belgians, and British: peaceful, green, historic, and culinary delights.
