Catamarca

Catamarca is a province in northwestern Argentina, bordering Chile to the west and the provinces of Salta, Tucumán, Santiago del Estero, Córdoba, and La Rioja.
Capital: San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca (often simply called Catamarca), with approximately 200,000 inhabitants in the urban area.

The landscape is predominantly mountainous (Andes and Sierras Pampeanas), with arid and semi-arid climates, valleys, deserts, volcanoes, salt flats, and the Puna Plateau.
Known for extreme landscapes such as the world's highest dune and the Ojos del Salado volcano (the world's highest active volcano).
Economy: Focused on mining (gold, copper, lithium), agriculture (in irrigated valleys: wine, olives, nuts), and growing tourism (adventure, archaeology, nature).
Culture and Tourism: Rich indigenous and colonial history (Inca sites like Shincal), famous for vicuña wool ponchos, the National Poncho Festival, and pilgrimages to the Virgen del Valle.

Ideal for trekking, 4x4 tours, and wildlife watching.
