It is the only Brazilian state whose capital (Boa Vista) is located entirely in the Northern Hemisphere.
Capital: Boa Vista (about half the population lives there).
Borders: Venezuela (north/northwest), Guyana (east), Pará (southeast), and Amazonas (south/west).
Landscape: South = Amazon rainforest, north/east = savannas and grasslands, with mesas (tepuis) such as the famous Mount Roraima (2,810 m) at the tripoint with Venezuela and Guyana.
Economy: Primarily tertiary sector, livestock farming, limited agriculture, some mining (gold, diamonds).
Lowest GDP of all Brazilian states.
Details: A large portion (approx. 70%) is indigenous territory (including the Yanomami Reserve), with much untouched nature, and relatively recently declared a state (1988).
In short: a sparsely populated, tropical border state with abundant jungle, savanna, and impressive mesas, known for its extreme northern location and indigenous populations.
