Hunan

Hunan (湖南) is an inland province in central-southern China, south of Dongting Lake (hence the name: "south of the lake").

Capital: Changsha.
Famous for: Spicy Hunan cuisine (one of the "Eight Great Cuisine" of China, rich in chili and smoked meats).
Birthplace of Mao Zedong.
Spectacular scenery: Zhangjiajie (the "Avatar Mountains" with sandstone pillars and a glass bridge). Fenghuang and other ancient cities.
Important rice and pork production area.

In short: mountainous, green, with a revolutionary history, extremely spicy cuisine, and one of China's most popular tourist provinces.
