Amazonas

Amazonas is the largest state in Brazil (abbreviation: AM).

Capital: Manaus (about half the population lives there)
Location: Northwest Brazil, Norte region; borders Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, and Brazilian states such as Pará, Rondônia, and Acre.
Landscape: Almost entirely covered by the Amazon rainforest, with the Amazonas River and many tributaries (such as the Rio Negro) .
Features: The world's greatest biodiversity, large indigenous population (multiple tribes and languages), Zona Franca de Manaus (industrial zone with electronics, among other things).
Economy: Industry (primarily Manaus), ecotourism, extraction (nuts, timber, minerals)

In short: a vast, sparsely populated, and naturally rich area that forms the heart of the Brazilian Amazon.
