Staphorst Dotwork

Staphorst dotwork is a traditional Dutch folk art from Staphorst, Overijssel, primarily used on textiles and furniture.
It is characterized by colorful, symmetrical dot patterns in bright colors such as red, blue, yellow, and green, often on a black background.
This decorative technique, which dates back to the 19th century, is used for clothing, such as bonnets and hats, and interior pieces such as cabinets and Bible cases.
Dotwork reflects the austere, religious culture of Staphorst and is still practiced by hand, often by women, as an expression of local identity and tradition.
