Kronborg Castle (Elsinore - Denmark)



Kronborg in Elsinore is a castle on the Danish island of Zealand.
It derives primarily from the Renaissance; The interior dates back to the Renaissance and Baroque periods.
The castle was placed in 2000 on the World Heritage List of UNESCO.
The castle is situated on a peninsula where the Sound is at its narrowest.
Helsingborg in Sweden is no more than four kilometers away.
The Danish king Erik VII built here around 1420 raise the first fort and the Sound Toll was here on passing ships.
The fort of strategic and symbolic importance has since played a crucial role at various times in the history of Northern Europe.
