Location: Northwest Morocco, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Rif Mountains, south of the old region of Tangier-Tetouan.
Capital: Kenitra.
Provinces (formerly): Kenitra, Sidi Kacem, and Sidi Slimane.
The region was known as an important agricultural area (second in Morocco after Tadla-Azilal), with many irrigated fields.
However, there was little economic and geographical unity: the Gharb section had more connections to the north (Loukos area), while it was administered from Kenitra.
Since the administrative reform in 2015, this region no longer exists independently.
The provinces are now incorporated into the larger Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region.
In short: a former northwestern Moroccan region with a strong focus on agriculture, located on the coast near Rabat.
