Ambato, full name San Juan de Ambato, is a town and parish in the canton of Ambato in central Ecuador.
It is the capital of the Tungurahua province and is located at almost 2600 meters above sea level. In the past, the city has been hit several times by earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
