The city was founded on October 24, 1933 and in 1937 it became the capital of the state of Goiás.
Goiânia is located in the central-west region of Brazil.
About 30% of the city of Goiânia is green, with forests, avenues and parks.
One of the largest parks is the Bosque dos Buritis with an area of 140,000 m2 with many 'buriti' palm trees, which bear yellow fruits.
Known as the 'Spring Capital', Goiânia was planned as a modern city, growing outward from the center.
In the early years this plan was well followed, but due to the rapid growth, the plans were not followed to the letter, with the exception of the green areas.
