Snakewort (Echium vulgare)

This herb owes its name to the Roman king Nero, who thought that if the herb was drunk with wine it would protect against snake bites. 

The juice from the carrot has the same red color and was also used as the basis of red paint in the past. 

The plant is actually mainly found in calcareous areas and lives about 1 to 2 years depending on the location.
