The province is located in the center and east of the Netherlands and is bordered in the northeast by Overijssel, in the east by the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, in the south by Limburg and North Brabant, in the extreme southwest by South Holland, to the west by the province of Utrecht and to the northwest by the province of Flevoland, separated by the Veluwerandmeren.
The capital of Gelderland is Arnhem.
The city with the most inhabitants is Nijmegen and Apeldoorn is the largest municipality in terms of surface area.
