Rabat is the capital of Morocco. 

Administratively, the city belongs to the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, of which it is the capital. 

Before 2015, Rabat belonged to the smaller former region of Rabat-Salé-Zemmour-Zaer. 

The city of Rabat belongs to the prefecture of Rabat of the same name.
