São Gonçalo is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Rio de Janeiro located 25 km from the city of Rio de Janeiro and is part of the metropolitan mesoregio Rio de Janeiro.
With its 1,049,826 inhabitants on 249.1 km², it is the city of Rio de Janeiro itself, the most populated city in the state.
