Molde is the capital of the Norwegian province of Møre og Romsdal.
It is also the seat of the Bishop of Møre.
The towns of Hovdenakken, Hjelset, Røbekk and Torhaug are part of the municipality.
Molde is situated on a sheltered slope on the Romsdalsfjord.
